Not that long ago, when having an instrument tracking system was considered extraordinary. Now, we see an increasing number of healthcare facilities seeing it as a real necessity. Indeed, considering surgical case overload, there is a need for precise and efficient processes of instrument procurement, handling and shipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The surgical instrument cycle includes procurement, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, utilization and decontamination processes. many of things may go wrong at every stage of this cycle, including lost or misplaced medical devices, wrong sterilization methods, wrong instrument sets sent to the point of use, delays resulting from manual counting and so on. In most cases these mistakes occur because of the human factor in nonautomated environments.
